History:
The luxurious house with many facade sculptures for the owner – the merchant of the second guild Heinrich Detmanis (Heinrih Detmanis), the founder of the Russian-Baltic Electrotechnical Factory (later – the famous factory VEF) was designed by three architects at once: Riga Germans and the pride of Riga urban planning – Friedrich Scheffel, Heinrich Schäl and their colleague from Lübeck W. Hahn. Detmanis commissioned the latter to draw the facade. He did not spare money: when purchasing land for construction, he paid 1200 gold rubles. This was a previously unheard of amount in real estate transactions in Riga. Since 1901, the Detmanis house, built in the Art Nouveau style (Art Nouveau), has adorned the ancient street.
